The label opened in December 2022 with a shop on Cat Street in Harajuku. Its idea is a little unusual: every Sound Skin Perfume comes with its own original soundtrack. Wear the scent. Play the track. What Is a Japanese Skin Perfume?
A skin perfume is a scent made to blend into the skin and stay close. It is noticed by the person beside you, not the whole room. That is the brief AHRES writes Sound Skin Perfume to, and it suits a desk, a train carriage, a dinner where nobody wants to taste your perfume.
Each scent comes in two sizes with the same label. The 50ml is a square-shouldered glass bottle with a champagne-gold cap. The 8ml is a slim spray tube for the bag.
Why Does an AHRES Perfume Come With Music?
Because AHRES treats scent and sound as one idea. Each scent has one original track, made by different artists, and the genre changes from scent to scent. The tracks stream on AHRES's SoundCloud, and they work as background music too, so you can wear a scent and play it in the same moment.

SAYU: The Floral Musk AHRES Calls a Best Seller
AHRES describes SAYU as a clear morning in scent. Fresh, glossy, transparent. Bergamot, cassis, apple, grapefruit and black currant at the top. Rose, carnation, muguet and jasmine in the heart. Musk and cedarwood underneath.

Best for: a first AHRES, everyday wear, anyone who likes clean florals with a soft musk finish.
Zero: Iris, Powder and a Citrus Lift
Zero sets the powder of iris against bright citrus. Bergamot, lemon and neroli open it. Iris, rose and heliotrope sit in the heart. Tonka, vanilla and amber settle underneath. Faintly sweet, a little mysterious, soft.
Best for: powdery florals worn light, and anyone who wants a quiet scent for close company.
The Sea Of Trees: Citrus, Pepper and Sandalwood
The Sea Of Trees opens bright on orange and bergamot, with a spicy edge of pepper. Geranium and clary sage carry the middle. Then the woods take over: cedarwood, cypress, sandalwood, vetiver.
Best for: anyone who finds florals too sweet, and anyone shopping for someone who wears woods.
Tokyo Sakigake YOI: Plum and Shiso at Dusk
Tokyo Sakigake is AHRES's two-scent series on plum blossom and Tokyo. The ume is the first blossom of early spring in Japan, ahead of the cherry trees, and AHRES calls it the harbinger of a hundred flowers.
YOI means early evening, dusk. Tokyo Sakigake YOI is a chypre: lemon, bergamot, shiso and ume up top, jasmine, narcissus, rose and black pepper in the heart, then cypress, vetiver, patchouli, civet and agarwood. The liquid is pale blue.
Best for: evenings, and anyone who likes a deeper, woodier scent with a green edge.
Tokyo Sakigake AKATSUKI: Marine and Iris at Dawn
AKATSUKI is dawn. Tokyo Sakigake AKATSUKI opens on ambrette seed, lime and a sharp marine accord. Violet, iris and cyclamen follow. It dries down to musk, amber and dry wood. Fresh first, powdery later, and the liquid is blush pink.
Best for: mornings, and anyone who likes a clean musk with a sea breeze running through it.

a stone, the Solid Perfume in a River-Stone Case
a stone, is the solid version, and the case is the point. A river stone made to be held and carried, in Pink, a rose-copper metallic, or Black, a glossy black. Inside sits a beeswax base with olive, rosehip, shea, honey and jojoba, free of synthetic wax, ethanol and parabens.
Take a little on a fingertip and press it onto the wrists, the inner elbows or behind the ears. It works on dry hair ends too. AHRES states two to three hours of wear, so this is the top-up you carry, not the morning spray. The cases are refillable and the Refill is sold separately. The scent changes; the stone stays. Three scents come this way: a stone, SAYU, a stone, Zero and a stone, Mellow Flavors Forest.
Mellow Flavors Forest: Fig, Coconut and Cedarwood
We carry Mellow Flavors Forest as a stone only. AHRES built it on a ripe fig tree, the view up into the branches overhead. Fig and fig leaves open it, muguet softens it, and cedarwood and coconut close it. Sweet and woody at once.
Best for: fig lovers, and anyone who wants a solid that smells warm rather than floral.

Is AHRES Worth It?
Yes, if you want a scent that stays close rather than announces you. A skin perfume will not fill a room, and AHRES does not claim it will: it states five to seven hours for Sound Skin Perfume and two to three for a stone, and publishes no figure for the Tokyo Sakigake pair.
