Boots for rain, flats for the commute, sneakers for everything in between. Here is how our personal shoppers would choose.
Rockfish Weatherwear began in 2004 as a British rain boot label, and the boot is still what it does best. The range has since grown into Mary Janes, sneakers, sandals and a few bags, all in the same soft, matte, easy-to-wear register.
Our personal shoppers bought this first edit in Seoul, where the label's Korean business has been run by AU Brandz since 2013. That is more than forty styles, so this Rockfish Weatherwear guide narrows it down to what each shoe is like, how it fits and who it suits.
The quick answer
- Rain boots you will walk in: Original Rain Boots Short, or the taller Original Rain Boots Long for deep puddles.
- The lowest rain boot: Ebby Rain Boots Short, ankle height.
- Easiest on and off: Original Chelsea Rain Boots, with side gore bands.
- The statement boot: Platform Rain Boots Middle.
- A Mary Jane for every day: Bella Quilted Maryjanes. For a low heel, Square Toe Two Strap Maryjanes (4cm). For something dressier, Tule Maryjanes.
- Sneakers: Bliss Laceup for a slim, glossy line, Zane X-Strap V2 for flat and brushed.
- The bag: Nylon Bowling Bag.
SoJan tip: Rockfish Weatherwear sizes run in Korean millimetre bands, not UK or US numbers. Measure your foot in millimetres and match it to the band. Not sure? Message Live Chat and our personal shoppers will help you pick.
Rain boots: the label's signature
Matte natural rubber is the Rockfish look. There is no gloss, the colours are soft (ivory, cocoa, burgundy, butter) and the details are small: a buckle, a pull loop, a woven patch. They read as part of an outfit rather than a wet-weather afterthought. Browse every pair in the rain boots collection.
Rockfish Weatherwear Original Rain Boots Short
The classic. A side belt, a lugged sole and a 28.3cm shaft that stops below the knee. They come in Ivory, Beige, Cocoa, Dark Burgundy and Mint Grey, and the upper is hand-finished natural rubber with a high-poly insole for comfort.
Best for: anyone who wants one pair of rain boots that works under a long coat or over washed denim. Worth knowing: they weigh about 760g a pair, which is solid underfoot. If you want taller, the Long version has a 39.3cm shaft. There is also a New Original Rain Boots Short in Ivory with a buckle strap and a woven patch on the shaft.
Rockfish Weatherwear Ebby Rain Boots Short
Ankle height, 15.5cm, and light at about 445g a pair. A pull loop at the heel and a debossed label on the side are the only details. They sit under cropped trousers or against a midi hem. Seven colours run from Pink, Butter and Cream to Burgundy and Black.
Best for: city rain and warm, wet days. Limitation: the low shaft will not keep your ankles dry in a downpour or deep puddles, so go taller for that.
Rockfish Weatherwear Original Chelsea Rain Boots
A short Chelsea cut with side gore bands and a rear pull loop, so they go on without a struggle. The finish is soft matte in Ivory, Beige, Cocoa, Dark Burgundy and Black, with a wave-patterned tread.
Best for: the person who pulls boots on and off all day. They look right with wide trousers or a slip dress.
Rockfish Weatherwear Platform Rain Boots Middle
The one that does the talking. A chunky platform outsole with a reinforced non-slip tread, an 18cm shaft, a 5.5cm heel and a slim ankle line. The rubber has a sanded matte texture in seven muted colours, including Butter, Ash Lavender and Cocoa. A back horn lets you slip them on without touching the boot.
Best for: long skirts and wide hems that stop at the top of the shaft. Worth knowing: at about 747g they are the boot you notice most.
Our rain boot favourites: Original Short for the classic, Ebby for the low cut, Chelsea for easy on and off, Platform for the statement.
Rain boot care: natural rubber can show a pale, powdery bloom after warm or humid storage. It is harmless and wipes off with a damp cloth. Dry them in the shade, away from direct sun.
Mary Janes and flats
This is where the label softens. Velvet, enamel, satin and tulle, mostly with a flat or low heel. The full range sits in the Mary Janes and flats collection.
Rockfish Weatherwear Bella Quilted Maryjanes
Velvet with a quiet sheen, a diamond-quilted insole in a contrasting shade and a hidden banding strap under the buckle. The heel is a flat 13mm. There are twelve colourways, from All Black and Navy to Lavender and Yellow.
Best for: everyday wear with sheer white socks or bare ankles. Worth knowing: the fit is slim, so if you have wide feet, size up one size.
Rockfish Weatherwear Square Toe Two Strap Maryjanes (4cm)
A square toe, two slim buckled straps, a small ribbon at the vamp and a stable 4cm heel. The enamel catches the light without looking hard. They come in Brown, Black, Butter, Pink and White, and the insole is quilted and cushioned. There is also an Enamel version of the same shape.
Best for: a Mary Jane that works with socks, tights or bare legs and still gives you a little height.
Rockfish Weatherwear Tule Maryjanes
Satin and tulle with a detachable ribbon strap that wraps at the ankle or comes off for a plain flat. The sole is clear with a flower print underfoot. Five colours: Black, Pink, Brown, Grey and Sage Green.
Best for: the ballet-flat mood. Limitation: a 1.3cm heel and sheer upper make them a dry-day shoe.
Our Mary Jane favourites: Bella for every day, Square Toe 4cm for a little lift, Tule for the ribbon.
Sneakers
Rockfish sneakers are slim and low rather than chunky. They are cut closer to a ballet flat than a trainer. See them all in the sneakers collection.
Rockfish Weatherwear Bliss Laceup Sneakers
Coated leather and mesh with a subtle sheen, piping along the upper and four contrast lines down each side. The heel is 3cm and reinforced. Two lace sets come with the pair: standard laces and long organza ones. Seven colourways, from Dark Silver and Choco to Sky Blue and Sage Green.
Best for: the slim, dressy sneaker. Limitation: a slim, low shape, so try them with the socks you plan to wear.
Rockfish Weatherwear Zane X-Strap Sneakers V2
Natural suede paired with air mesh, with X-crossed webbing straps over the vamp and a 25mm heel. Brushed nap on one side, breathable mesh on the other, in six colourways including Choco, Cream and Sky Blue.
Best for: flat, relaxed days with socks. Worth knowing: sizes stop at 250mm, so check your band before you fall for a colour.
One bag worth adding
Rockfish Weatherwear Nylon Bowling Bag
Lightweight nylon cut low and wide: 38cm across, 23.5cm high, 12cm deep, with a 28cm handle drop for the shoulder. Two pockets sit across the front and a drawstring cord at each side. It stays light when full. See the rest in the Rockfish bags collection, or read What to Carry With It: The Everyday Seoul Bag Edit.

Sizing, in plain terms
Rockfish Weatherwear uses Korean millimetre sizing. Each rain boot band covers 5mm of foot length, for example 240-245mm. Most rain boots, Mary Janes and sneakers run from 230mm to between 250mm and 255mm. Measure your foot, match the band, and check the colour you want is offered in it, because not every colour comes in every size. Bella runs slim, so size up if your feet are wide.
